Fenerum MCP Server (invite-only alpha)

Invite-only alpha

The Fenerum MCP server is an invite-only alpha feature. Your organization must be invited and enabled by Fenerum before you can connect. Contact support@fenerum.com to request an invitation. Requesting access does not guarantee an invitation.

Fenerum exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, and Cursor can read and act on your Fenerum data. OAuth connections use your own Fenerum permissions; organization API tokens grant full organization access.

Endpoint: https://app.fenerum.com/api/mcp

Before you start

  • Your organization must have MCP access enabled as part of the invite-only alpha. This is required for every connection method, including API tokens.
  • For OAuth connections, you must be an active member of the invited organization and able to sign in to Fenerum.
  • Your AI client must support Streamable HTTP and either OAuth or an authorization header. Legacy SSE transport is not supported by Fenerum.

Organizations without MCP access do not appear on the OAuth consent screen, and connection attempts are rejected. Contact Fenerum support if your invited organization is missing.

Connect Claude

Claude.ai and Claude Desktop

Use a custom connector with OAuth so each user acts with their own Fenerum permissions.

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Enter https://app.fenerum.com/api/mcp.
  3. Keep the detected settings at their defaults, as shown below, and click Add.
  4. Click Connect, log in to Fenerum, choose the organization you want to grant access to, and click Allow.

Claude connector settings

SettingChooseWhy
AuthenticationAlways required (auto-detected)Every request needs authentication; Fenerum exposes no anonymous tools.
OAuth clientNo client ID — register one automatically (auto-detected)Fenerum supports dynamic client registration (RFC 7591).
OAuth client — Anthropic hosted client metadata (CIMD)Not supportedConnection will fail with “Unknown client_id”.
OAuth client — Use your own OAuth clientOnly if Fenerum pre-registered one for youRequires a client ID issued by Fenerum and an exact matching redirect URI. Leave the client secret blank: Fenerum uses PKCE public clients.
Managed authorization (identity provider)OffNot supported; access is tied to a Fenerum user and one organization.
Additional request headersNoneOAuth connections use the bearer token. No additional headers are needed.
Transport (Advanced)Streamable HTTP (auto-detected)SSE (legacy) is not supported and will fail.

Connect ChatGPT

Use ChatGPT on the web with Developer mode. Availability depends on your ChatGPT account and workspace policy; your workspace administrator may need to enable access.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open ChatGPT Plugins, select +, and create a connection named Fenerum. Use a description such as “Read and manage Fenerum accounts, subscriptions, invoices, and reporting.”
  3. Enter https://app.fenerum.com/api/mcp as the MCP server URL.
  4. Choose OAuth with dynamic client registration (DCR). Leave the client ID and client secret blank for automatic registration. Do not choose CIMD, No Authentication, or Mixed Authentication. Use Streamable HTTP if a transport choice is shown.
  5. Create the connection and complete Fenerum's login flow. Select your invited organization and click Allow.
  6. Start a conversation, choose Developer mode from the + menu, and select Fenerum. Try a read-only request such as “Use Fenerum to show my organization's total MRR.”

ChatGPT supports read and write tools in Developer mode. Write actions require confirmation by default: review the proposed action and its inputs before approving it. Fenerum still checks the connection's granted permissions and your Fenerum role.

For current account availability and setup details, see OpenAI's Developer mode documentation and MCP connection guide.

Connect Claude Code and API-token clients

Use the same organization API token as the REST API. See Getting your API token for where to create it.

Organization API token access

An organization API token carries full organization permissions. It does not use the signed-in user's OAuth permissions. Treat the token as a secret and keep it out of shared configuration, source control, and chat messages. API tokens still require the organization to be enabled for the invite-only alpha.

Replace <your-api-token> with your organization's token:

claude mcp add --transport http fenerum https://app.fenerum.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Token <your-api-token>"

For other clients that support custom headers, use the same endpoint with Authorization: Token <your-api-token> and Streamable HTTP.

Clients using mcp-remote

For clients that support neither custom headers nor OAuth but can launch a local MCP process, use mcp-remote. This requires Node.js and npx on your computer. Add the following to the client's MCP configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fenerum": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["mcp-remote", "https://app.fenerum.com/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization: Token <your-api-token>"]
    }
  }
}

This configuration contains your token, so keep it private. It is for clients that launch local MCP processes, not the ChatGPT web connection described above.

What you can do

MCP tools mirror the Fenerum REST API, including its results, filters, and validation:

AreaCapabilities
SearchSearch across your organization.
AccountsList, view, create, update, and archive.
SubscriptionsList, view, create, preview a cancellation, cancel, and reactivate.
Billing and catalogWork with invoices, plans, plan terms, products, draft invoice lines, and recipients.
ActivitiesAccess activities.
ReportingGet total MRR and MRR per month; list and calculate KPIs.

Lists support the API's filters, sorting, and paging, with 25 results by default and 100 maximum. See the API reference for resource details.

Access and sessions

For OAuth connections in Claude and ChatGPT:

  • Access is granted per user and per organization: the organization chosen on the consent screen. To use a different organization, connect again and select it.
  • The permissions are read (view data) and write (create and change data). Tools that change data require write access, and your Fenerum role must permit the action.
  • Sessions refresh automatically. A connection stays valid for up to 90 days of inactivity, after which you must sign in again.
  • Actions appear in the audit log, attributed to you, with the client system MCP.

Organization API tokens use the token's organization access instead of these OAuth grants and sessions.

Troubleshooting

SymptomCause and fix
“MCP server is not enabled for this organization”MCP access is not enabled for the organization. The server is an invite-only alpha; contact Fenerum support about access.
No organizations listed on the consent screenYour user is not an active member of an organization with MCP access enabled. Check your membership and contact support if your invited organization is missing.
“Unknown client_id”The connection may be configured to use hosted client metadata (CIMD), such as Anthropic's hosted client metadata. Re-add it with dynamic client registration. If using a pre-registered client, use the client ID and exact redirect URI registered by Fenerum.
Connection fails or hangsCheck the endpoint and transport. Fenerum requires Streamable HTTP; legacy SSE is not supported.
ChatGPT Developer mode or connection controls are missingAvailability depends on your ChatGPT account and workspace policy. Check OpenAI's linked setup guidance and ask your workspace administrator about access.
A write action is refusedThe OAuth connection may only have read access, or your Fenerum role may lack permission. Check both. In ChatGPT, also review and approve the write-action confirmation.
You are asked to sign in againOAuth connections expire after up to 90 days of inactivity. Reconnect and sign in to Fenerum again.
Rate-limit errorsRequests are throttled per organization. Pause before retrying.
